In this seminar held on 20 June 2024, Prof. Krislert Samphantharak, Professor of Economic and Public Policy at the School of Global Policy and Strategy of the University of California San Diego, shared his insights into the distinctive features of economies in ASEAN, factors shaping their economic landscapes, and their unique paths in driving development. The seminar also shed light on the future of ASEAN as a rising economic bloc and implications for Hong Kong.

About Prof. Krislert Samphantharak
Prof. Krislert Samphantharak is an expert in finance, public policy and economic development. He is a Professor of Economic and Public Policy at the School of Global Policy and Strategy of the University of California San Diego. He is also an advisor and former executive director of the Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research at the Bank of Thailand.
About Professor Heiwai Tang
Professor Heiwai Tang is Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics, Director of the Asia Global Institute, as well as the Associate Dean (External Relations) of Executive Education of HKU Business School. He has been a consultant to the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the United Nations, and the Asian Development Bank. His research interests span a wide range of theoretical and empirical topics in international trade, with a specific focus on production networks, global value chains, and China.
